New Client Bookings

  • 2.5 hours is good for clients who have extremely thick or dense hair, clients with tight coils or ringlets, and clients with hair that is longer than mid back. If your hair hits your lower back, waist, hips, bottom, or below - please book for 2.5 hours.

  • For most new clients we recommend the 2 hour session. For new clients with ultra thick or ultra long (past mid back) hair, we recommend 2.5 hours.

  • Everyone who works at Neon Moon Salon is a cutting specialist. That means we spend all of our time behind the chair focused on the art of haircutting. We each attend monthly classes to continue our education so we can master working with all cutting tools and all hair textures. Our stylists typically cater to folx who want specialty haircuts as opposed to a standard trim. However, no matter how big or small the change - we are happy to have you!

    To us a 2 hour initial haircut session is key! Much like the “slow food” or “slow fashion” movements, we believe there are major benefits in slowing down the hair salon experience. We want to sit down and have a thorough consultation with our clients where we can address all of your hair goals, routines, fears, and more. We believe that educating our clients about how to maintain their new look at home is crucial for your appointment to be a success. Having the full 2 hours gives us plenty of time to fine tune, tweak, or adjust anything that isn’t suiting you.

  • Sometimes we can accommodate a shorter session for folx that already have short hair.

  • Sometimes we can accommodate a shorter session for folx that aren’t looking for much of a change. (This typically is someone who gets a trim every 8 weeks or less)

  • Our pricing is based off of the time that you reserved. If you think your hair won’t take two hours, you can email us a request for a shorter session in advance at hello@theneonmoonsalon.com However, once you come in - you will be expected to pay for the entire time reserved regardless of if your service takes less time. If you’re booked for 2 hours, and your cut takes 90 minutes we can’t then fill that remaining 30 minute session with someone else. It’s rare that a new client cut takes us less than the full amount of time.

  • Nope! We just ask that you please book with a stylist of the same price point or lower.

    Schedule for either the 60 min dry cut or 90 min wet cut. You don’t need to book a 2 hour session unless you’re wanting a transformation!

  • Most of us only open our books 12 weeks at a time so we can have flexibility in our schedules. If you’re looking out past 3 months from now, it will appear that there are no appointments available.Please be advised when booking far out that we may need to reach out to you with potential schedule adjustments.

  • Depending on your appointment length we will wash and style your hair here. Generally for 2 hour sessions and 2.5 hour sessions we are able to accommodate a wash and style. If booked for a shorter new client session please check in as many of our stylists perform 90 minute new client sessions as a dry cut! A lot of clients do like to come in with their hair styled how they typically like to wear it so their stylist can get a sense for their texture. But if you’d prefer to show up with not super styled hair, that’s totally okay too! You can show your stylist photos or a video of how your hair looks air dried, blown out, or diffused to give them a better idea of your styling.

    Whether coming in for a new client cut or a return client cut, we do ask folks to please not have matted hair or a lot of tangles to work through. We will likely need additional time in order to work those out in order to cut your hair.

  • No need to come in super early even if it’s your first visit with us. 5 min early or on time is perfect!

  • We prefer to have one on one focus during your haircut so please no plus ones. Plant Bar offers coffee & tea at the other end of our parking lot.

  • We do not offer refunds on haircut services, but are happy to make adjustments on your cut within 2 weeks of when you came in. An adjustment means tweaking the haircut to better fit what was talked about. A change in what was discussed during the haircut or consultation is not considered an adjustment & will need to be booked as a separate service.

  • Heck yeah we do! We see clients of all ages, genders, backgrounds, and hair types. Everyone is welcome here and we would love to have you!

  • Yes we do, however most of us require 2 hour minimums for new clients regardless of their age.

    Sarah B is open to cutting hair for kids as a shorter service. Please text or email (828)357-7481 or hello@theneonmoonsalon.com a request and include current hair photos. Sarah does not currently offer ‘first’ hair cuts for children and asks that your child is able to sit on their own in the salon chair for their service.

  • We cut hair for people of all genders, but we don’t have a gendered service menu! We base our haircuts off of timing. If you have short hair or aren’t in need of a big change, you can email us your current hair photos + inspo photos to request a shorter session. hello@theneonmoonsalon.com

  • None of us here at Neon Moon offer coloring services. We are dedicated to focusing on strictly haircuts, and offering a chemical free hair salon experience in Asheville.

Return Client Bookings

  • If you don’t have a shag, mullet, curly cut, razor cut, or creative cut - you can typically book a 60 minute cut.

    If you have currently have short hair (above shoulders), you can typically book a 60 minute cut.

    If you have long hair, a shag, mullet, curly cut, razor cut, or creative cut it is typically best to go with the 90 minute wet cut OR the 60 minute dry cut.

  • A dry cut means you would be coming in with clean, dry hair for your haircut since you won’t be having it washed or styled.

    If you have textured wavy or curly hair this means you will most likely be leaving Neon Moon with brushed out hair as opposed to defined curls.

    If you prefer to have your hair washed and fully styled with product, we recommend the 90 minute wet cut.

    For ultra thick hair or tight coils, we recommend a wet cut.

  • Please come in with clean, dry, detangled hair. There should be no major matting or knotting or else we won’t be able to get a comb through your hair in order to cut it. You can have light product in your hair, but we need to be able to easily get a brush through it. Your hair (and bangs) should be down in their natural state. Please don’t have your hair pulled back in a pony or manipulated with clips. or under a hat.

  • We offer bang trims as 30 min sessions to all return clients! A few of our stylists offer 15 minute sessions, please text, call or email the salon if you’d like to check in on that! To set one of these up, please text/call 828.357.7481, or email us directly at hello@theneonmoonsalon.com. Please include the days/timeframes that typically work best for you. We book these requests a few days in advance based off of our stylists availability.

    We are floor level in a large brick building with apartments on top. We are fully wheelchair accessible.

  • Yes! Free street parking out front and a free lot behind us. Please use the parking lot entrance.

  • Please refrain from bringing a plus one to your appointment so we can have a one on one session with you.

    Plant Bar offers coffee & tea at the other end of our parking lot.

  • YES! Please plan accordingly - there is almost always traffic here in West Asheville :)

    We have a 15 minute grace period for late appointments. After that your appointment is subject to being rescheduled and charged for the same day cancellation.

    If you are coming from South Asheville, Greenville, Charlotte, Columbia, or Spartanburg - it is HIGHLY likely that you will hit traffic coming into Asheville on I-26.

    Please give yourself extra time to get here.
